Supervision

Why is Supervision Important?

We offer supervision for professionals working in many different fields. For Counsellors supervision is a vital part of their working practice and is a requirement of all reputable membership organisations including the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, National Counselling Society, UK Council for Psychotherapy and the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies. Sarah holds Senior Accreditation as a Supervisor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and has been supervising people in various fields of work since 2014.

How does Supervision work?

Supervision in all fields of Health and Social Care provides an environment in which practitioners can explore their personal and emotional reactions to their work, reflect on and challenge their practice in a safe and confidential environment, as well as receive feedback on their skills. Supervision can also support people to engage in continuing professional development, identify areas where they may need more support and reflect on the work with those we support, all of which are part of best practice guidelines for many professions supporting others.

The end result will be greater job satisfaction, less stress and working much more effectively. The reverse is also true as there is much research evidence that when supervision is absent or inadequate there can be a considerable negative impact on our and mental health.

Consultancy for Employers

A recent study by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) found that 9.8% of UK sickness absence days in 2021 were attributed to mental health conditions. However, with the NHS under severe strain, access to the necessary treatment remains a challenge with services being unavailable or suffering long waiting lists. Considering the continued coronavirus pandemic, cost of living crisis and other emerging social and economic factors, the pressures of everyday living will continue to bite for many.

Most employers recognise that the mental welfare of their employees is of equal import as their physical health. By promoting a culture of wellbeing in a supportive environment, companies can reduce the stigma around mental health in the workplace whilst also benefitting from greater transparency and collaborative solutions with their employees.

Provide all of the necessary expertise and guidance in setting up a support structure for staff teams.
To include:

  • A clear support policy and advice on mechanisms for accessing support
  • Individual and Group Supervision for staff and management
  • Training for managers on staff welfare and wellbeing
  • Advice on creating a mentally healthy working environment for all employees
